I should really start
working on better preparing my scenes for drama; it's a bad habit I've gotten
into, procrastinating. If I had been better prepared for this monologue maybe I
would have remembered all my lines. I really enjoyed the character of Babe, and
would like to get a chance to work on and expand her character more. Things I
need to work on; making it bigger, lines, using my prop(s) effectively and
getting into and focusing on character.
"Making it bigger" by
this I mean that I need to be more hysterical. If I exaggerated my movements
more it would make the character of babe more interesting to the audience, she
just attempted to murder her husband after all. I need to make the facial
expressions more emotional as well as the tone and emotion in my voice.
Lines, I need to
practise more! Saying it is easy enough but actually doing it is an entirely
different thing all together. Memorization is difficult for me; I just need to
put more time into it and slowdown in my delivery in order to allow for my
memory to catch up to my mouth. If I make these improvements, which I plan on
doing, my performance should end up being great!
Our
task this week was to observe someone completely involved in a task or
situation. I noticed that a lot of people are involved completely in what they
are doing every day. Some examples of this would be, my stepdad watching football,
a sr. Kindergarten student trying desperately to open their juice box or the
field hockey girls during practise. None of these situations would seem so
intriguing if the people weren't totally involved in what they were doing.
If my stepdad was just sitting on the couch half asleep with football
on, the entire family would not be laughing at him for yelling at the
television or trying to jump up and cheer when his team scores, only to realize
that he cannot do that due to his recovering knees. If he was not so involved
then it would be a rather boring scene, him just sitting there not really
watching not doing anything to catch anyone's attention, although it would make
reading or doing homework a lot easier on football nights.
Imagine if the determined SK was not as determined as he was to get his
yummy juice box open, no one would look at him and go "awe how adorable". No one
would pay him any attention and he would be happily sipping his juice, a more
pleasant situation for the boy but not intriguing.
Finally the field hockey girls, anything less than 100 percent of their
attention on the practise or the game, they could get hit by another player or
a stick or a ball. Not just injury would result from not paying attention but
surely some scolding from Coach Dietrich and possibly their team mates. This
situation is probably one which would be more interesting if the players were
not totally involved in the game, but for the sake of the sport it would be a
bad idea.
All of this relates to drama and acting because if the actor is not
totally involved and focused on their character and the scene then it will not
be a very believable performance. Focus is one of the most important things in
acting if the actor is not focused they will not give a believable performance.
